Hello, welcome to SW RPGC.
Light which shines so brightly, seemingly neverending...
Be aware of that which is imminent,
For darkness will obscure the light,
And all will perish in it's wake.
- A prophecy of Lena, the great seer.
Long ago, there lived someone who was known as the ‘Great Seer’, Lena. She lived so far in the past that no-one is able to remember correctly if she were an angel or a demon, and even to this day it is argued over. It was said that she could see the future, and wrote down ‘prophecies’ into a book, known simply as ‘The Book’. It has no name. Once it might have had one, written in gold letters across it’s cover, but now it is nameless. There are copies of the original in the libraries of Heaven and Hell, although the original copy has been lost. It told of a future that would lead to ruin, a future that would have the very realms crumble and fall to pieces.
Settle down children, and listen to a story. A story which will lead to a terrible war, a war which will threaten the destruction of the world…
Once apon a time…
The King of Hell was bored of listening to his advisors and tired of watching his generals skulk around with nothing to do. So, being rebellious, he took an unscheduled visit to Earth. During his visit, he met a teenage girl, that he admired. He found her to be compelling, her purity mesmerising. Despite his cold attempts to corrupt her, the teenage girl just smiled and treated everything with blissful innocence. The King found himself drawn to her, even if she was incredibly naïve. He visited Earth whenever he could, trying to learn more about her. Word of this had reached both Heaven and Hell’s ears. His advisors told him to leave her be, whereas Heaven was cautious of his growing relationship with her. The King grew tired of complaints, regularly shutting himself off in his rose garden, relaxing in the silence. He had never felt such emotions before. The longing to see her, to talk to her, to hold her. The King wanted his senses to be filled with her entire being. It was sickening. A demon of royal blood, pining after a lowly human woman? He could crush her in an instant, bring her to ruin in the flick of his wrist and yet he was as gentle as a lamb near her. His visits were cut short when his advisors forbid him to travel to Earth, finding all kinds of distractions for him. But not even the most beautiful demons in the land were equal to the girl. None of them possessed that light, that smile. Since he wasn’t allowed to go see her, the King took one final visit to Earth, and forcibly removed her soul from her body. He was careful with her though, treating the girl as though she were a princess, and acting like a gentleman. He led her soul into Hell, and caused an uproar. The King was in love – the word practically choked – with a human? The King had dragged a human girl into his realm? He couldn’t keep her for long. The King had a few brief days with the girl before he had to return her to Earth, to her sleeping body. For he knew that if he kept her for much longer, it would place the girl in danger of becoming a lost soul. However, moments after he left, the girl faced a terrible fate. A cut off scream, a shower of blood leaving a corpse, empty and devoid of the light it had once possessed. The King was driven almost to insanity. He felt as though he were torn in two, his heart ripping at the seams. Those who were smart enough to realise danger kept away, for anyone who even tried to get close to the King were soon a smear on the wall. The roses burned, the flowers wilted, and stormy clouds plagued the skies. The King vowed to get revenge. He suspected Heaven of foul play, and swore that if it was then the last thing he’d do.. would make them suffer as he was.
It had been a month or so since one of the royals of Heaven had been kidnapped. A few demons managed to slip into Heaven, aided by a few angels who chose to defect, lured by greed. The royal in question was thrown in front of the King and his court of advisors and generals. He humiliated them, his court laughing at the entertainment as the heavenly royal was forced to bow before the King. The kidnapped royal was then sent into one of the dungeons, where only the King and his court knew. He couldn’t have someone going in and assassinating his hostage piece, so the King set up guards to watch over his ‘guest’. Heaven, outraged by such an act, was forced to go into negotiations for war. The war was agreed to take place on neutral ground, the closest being Earth. This meant that an angel or demon could be harmed or even killed in their human shell. However, with so much power being thrown around, it was no surprise that buildings crumbled and the ground trembled under the pressure. Lena, the Great Seer, had said it before. The realms were indeed falling to pieces. There were threats of civil war, and an uprising of those who felt the royals were not fit to rule.
Why was the war started? Over the kidnapping of a heavenly royal? Perhaps. But then, Heaven and Hell agreed to cease their constant fighting over a hundred years ago, and begrudgingly live in peace with one another. They did it to avoid that which is written in The Book, to try and prevent their societies from collapsing, and the Earth shattering from their bloodlust. But the treaty was broken. Why? Because just like The Book said, the war would begin because of a broken heart, and a fractured mind. The darkness would blot out the sun like an eclipse, and conflict would ensue.
The Book is always right. Anything written in it, is certainly inevitable. But even if this is so, it is possible to cheat fate, and write your own destiny…
So whose side are you on?
Light which shines so brightly, seemingly neverending...
Be aware of that which is imminent,
For darkness will obscure the light,
And all will perish in it's wake.
